Introduction
We have already taught about the introduction of Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is persistent but not unchanged disorder of movement and posture, due to non-progressive disorder of the brain, the result of interference during its development.
Characteristics Of Cerebral Palsy
Characteristics of Cerebral Palsy depends upon posture and limbs. According to posture there are four characteristics of Cerebral Palsy, which are given below :
- Hypertonia
- Hypotonia
- Dystonia
- Rigidity
According to limbs there are five Characteristics of Cerebral Palsy, that are given below:
- Monoplegia
- Diaplegia
- Triplegia
- Hemiplegia
- Quadriplegia
According to Posture
Hypertonia
- Muscles of the individuals who are suffering from Cerebral Palsy get stiff.
- They have high muscle tone.
- They face difficulty in moving.
Hypotonia
- Body muscles of those who are suffering from Cerebral Palsy get floppy.
- They have low muscle tone.
- They face difficulty in standing.
Dystonia
- Their body muscles can be stiff and floppy.
Rigidity
- Body muscles of those who are suffering from cerebral Palsy feel heavy and like a lead pipe.
According to Limbs
Monoplegia
- In Monoplegia only one limb is affected that can be an arm.
Diaplegia
- Two limbs are affected profoundly and other two are less affected.
- three limbs are affected in triplegia that can be one leg and two arms or two legs and one arm.
Hemiplegia
- In Hemiplegia one side of the body is affected that are one leg and one arm of any side.
Quadriplegia
- In Quadriplegia all four limbs are affected.
