Introduction

Cerebral means having to do with the brain or concerning the brain and Palsy means paralysis of the body. Cerebral Palsy is a condition of paralysis due to the damage of brain.

Definition of Cerebral Palsy

  • Definition of Cerebral Palsy by Bax

  The most frequently cited definition of Cerebral Palsy was published by Bax in 1964 as 'postural and movement disorders due to deformity or injury in the immature brain'.

  • According to Mac Keith and Polani (1959)

Mac Keith and Polani defined CP as 'a persistent  but not unchanged disorder of movement and posture, due to non progressive disorder of the brain, the result of interference during its development. The damage that has been done to the child brain cannot cure nor will be worsen (more bad).

  • According to Led Mutch and Colleagues in 1992 

'A general term for syndromes caused by irreversible, but often reversible, brain damage of abnormalities during early development.

  • According to Little in 1861

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a well recognized neurodevelopmental condition beginning in early childhood and persisting through the lifespan.(Originally called 'Cerebral paresis').
